Sen. Mar Roxas Sponsored Laws That Continues to Oppress and Burden the Poor
The Truth Behind the E-VAT and Watered Down Cheaper Medicines Acts — Not Pro-Poor as Mar Roxas Claims
Sen. Mar Roxas has always CLAIMED to be the champion of the poor with the battle cry of “Lalaban Tayo”, Mr. Palengke, and Mr. Padyak.
Yet Sen. Roxas is the PRINCIPAL proponent of the EVAT Law and pushed for the passing of a “watered down” Cheaper Medicines Act.
Eighty percent (80%) of Filipinos are living below poverty line. Yet with the EVAT Law, Sen. Roxas knows well that this will make each and EVERY Filipino – rich like him, or poor like most Filipinos – pay 12% more of the basic necessities for living. FOOD, MEDICINES, TRANSPORTATION, ELECTRICITY, and WATER are now more expensive!
SEN. MAR ROXAS SPONSORED THE EVAT LAW. HOW CAN HE CLAIM TO BE PRO-POOR?
The Mar Roxas version of the Cheaper Medicines Act is now Senate Bill 1658. This is a WATERED DOWN version that has caused countless Filipinos to suffer more because they still cannot afford to buy these expensive medicines.
THE PEOPLE DEMANDS – WHY DID YOU NOT PUSH AND SPONSOR THE ORIGINAL VERSION?
The BIRON – SUPLICO VERSION listed 1,500 essential medicines to be included in the list of discounted medicines. MAR ROXAS VERSION included only 22 essential medicines! The BIRON-SUPLICO VERSION called for a reduction of price of essential medicines by 80% to 90%. MAR ROXAS VERSION allowed only a 50% discount!
Sen. Roxas claims his version is “Para sa Lahat”. How does he explain then that many Filipinos still cannot afford medicines because he watered down the original version of the Cheaper Medicines Act.
